Jana Kristine Carrey
Jana Kristine Carrey is a photographic artist and visual anthropologist who currently lives and works in San Francisco. She has an art studio at Art Explosion: Studio #113, 744 Alabama Street, in the Mission. Carrey has an M.A. in Visual Anthropology from the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology, University of Manchester, and a B.A. in Psychology with a concentration in Anthropology and Photography.
Since Carrey embraced photography at the age of 19 to help deal with the death of her younger brother to osteosarcoma, she maintains a firm belief that photography is a valuable tool for self-expression, personal transformation through healing self-narratives and creativity.
Commercially, Carrey has focused on portraiture and non-profits with a humanitarian mission. Her previous clients range from large health care organizations and universities to global NGO’s and community based arts organizations. She has worked internationally including projects in London, Manchester, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Guatemala.
